Grammar and Usage Workshop – Independent Study

$100 per level

Standard Pace is one level per school year, but students may work more slowly or may work at an accelerated pace.

Pre-Recorded Lessons, Self-Graded (guided by video), Optional Live Help Sessions

  • 2 Levels – Each level is divided into two half-levels.

  • Handout to Fill Out During Each Video Lesson – Handouts may be printed a level at a time, a module at a time, or a lesson at a time.
  • Self-Graded Exercises – Guided by video, students correct their own exercises. Although the independent study course does not contain quizzes and tests, it does contain a review game and review assignment at the end of each module. Assignments will not be submitted, and the instructor will not issue grades nor give feedback. Parents who wish to give their student a grade for the course may use any grading method they like.
  • Optional, Weekly Live Help Session – The instructor will hold a group help session each week (schedule to be announced).
  • Instructor Available Through the Comments Section of Each Assignment and by Email – If a student needs more assistance than can be provided via the assignment comments or weekly help session, a private session may be scheduled at a discounted rate of $20 per half hour.

Due dates for exercises are flexible, but points are taken off for late quizzes (unless parent emails to ask for an extension due to vacation, illness, etc.). Students may work ahead if they would like. Students who have fallen more than one month behind on work will be moved to the self-paced course after being warned and given two weeks to catch up.

Course Placement

A placement test is available (you will select the placement test option on the enrollment form) to students with previous grammar instruction. Students who prove on the placement test that they can identify with at least 90% accuracy all of the parts of speech (noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction, interjection) and parts of the sentence (simple subject, simple predicate, direct object, indirect object, object of the preposition, predicate adjective, and predicate nominative) can skip Module 1 and Module 2 of Level One, and the cost of Level One will be reduced by 20%.
