The primary focus of this program is grammar, but each level does include some basic essay writing instruction. Level one covers descriptive writing (descriptive paragraph and essay) and personal narrative writing. Level two covers informative writing, and, in this level, students write a non-researched informative essay and a short research report. The second writing module in level two covers some basic research skills. These skills are continued in level three when students write a persuasive essay. The Grammar and Writing Workshop also offers live writing workshops, so check back regularly for information on upcoming workshops.
If your student is working through another writing curriculum, you may opt out of the writing modules in Level One, and you may substitute writing assignments in levels two and three with assignments from your writing curriculum. (They must submit some writing in those levels because I want to make sure that they are putting the usage concepts into practice in their own writing.)
