Grammar and Writing Workshop, a three-level program for students in 7th-12th grades, covers all of the grammar your child will need to learn and includes basic essay writing instruction. The best part is that you, the parent, don’t have to grade anything! Lessons are delivered through videos that students watch on their own schedules. Each lesson has an accompanying handout that students fill out while watching the video. Handouts may be printed one lesson at a time or several modules (units) at a time. Exercises are graded by the students themselves (guided by video) while quizzes, tests, and essays are graded by the instructor and include detailed feedback. Students use Google Classroom to view lessons and submit assignments. The standard pace for the course is one level per school year. However, the course can be completed at an accelerated pace. For more details, see this list of frequently asked questions: Comprehensive Grammar and Writing Workshop F.A.Q.

This is a self-paced course. Students may join the course at any point during the year. Several different pacing guides are available to help students pace their work in the course. Students beginning a level in the fall may opt into due dates to help them stay on track to finish the level by the end of the school year. (The due dates are just there as a guide for the student. No points will be deducted for late work, and parents will still be responsible for helping hold their child accountable for completing the work.) Progress reports will be sent in mid-November and mid-March (and in mid-summer for students working during the summer). A full grade report will be sent upon completion of each level.

For students who would like to move through the Level One material more quickly so that they can get to Level Two and the usage rules/editing sooner, I offer a 24-lesson Level One Crash Course that covers the parts of speech and parts of the sentence so that students can move into Level Two more quickly. This would be most appropriate for high school students or for younger students who are advanced in the language arts. The Level One Crash Course does not contain writing modules. However, you may add on the Level One writing modules to the crash course for $20 each.

I also offer a placement test for students who have had previous grammar instruction. You will find placement test details on the enrollment form.
